Leif Davis's £2,000 gift shines amid tragic search for grieving family
Premier League defender Leif Davis, 26, has been praised after donating £2,000 to the family of three‑year‑old Noah Woods and joining more than 1,300 volunteers who searched for the missing boy in Brantham, Suffolk, during the early hours of Wednesday.
Noah Woods disappeared from a playground in Brantham at around 3 pm on Tuesday after becoming separated from a relative. Police later confirmed that his body was found in Decoy Pond lake on Wednesday and formally identified. The tragic discovery prompted a massive community response.
Search effort and Davis's involvement
A group of at least 1,300 volunteers converged on the area in the early hours of Wednesday, combing fields and waterways. Davis, who had just finished a Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal at Portman Road on Tuesday, arrived to help the search, according to an Ipswich fan. The defender’s presence was described as “top‑class” by the supporter.
Club and community response
A Just Giving page set up by the Good Dads Club has raised more than £71,000 for the Woods family, with Davis contributing £2,000. Social media users on X praised the gesture, writing “That’s an amazing thing to do” and “A lovely bloke”. Senior Sports Reporter Nathan Ridley noted the outpouring of support in his Sep 2026 report.
Ipswich Town issued a statement expressing its sorrow, saying the thoughts of everyone at the club are with the family and that players will wear black armbands for the weekend’s fixtures. Club captain Dara O'Shea and goalkeeper Christian Walton laid a wreath at the playground where Noah was last seen. View the images of the tribute on the club’s website.
The men’s first‑team travel to Everton on Saturday and will host Fulham on 10 Oct after the international break, with the black‑armband gesture set to feature in both matches. Police continue to assist the family, confirming the identification of the body and urging the public to respect the grieving relatives.
“This was the most heartbreaking outcome for us, we were just hoping that he would be hiding somewhere obvious where someone could find him,” Davis said. He added, “It seems he has made an impact across the whole nation… we were all just trying to bring him home safe and sound.”
Noah’s father Rhys posted on Facebook, saying his son “will be loved forever” and describing him as “the sweetest and most innocent little boy, with nothing but love to give”.
