Legal trouble looms for ex‑England star Raheem Sterling

Former England forward Raheem Sterling, 31, has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide and failing to provide a specimen after a single‑vehicle collision on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange on 28 May 2026, involving his black 4x4 Lamborghini.

Charges and court date

He was arrested on 28 May and will appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September to face the three offences. A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said, “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.” The statement listed the offences as dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.

The former Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea forward is a four‑time Premier League winner who terminated his contract with Chelsea in January to join the Dutch side. He moved to Feyenoord after being frozen out of the first‑team set‑up at Chelsea.

At Feyenoord he played under former Premier League striker Robin van Persie, making eight appearances without registering a goal or an assist.

Future legal proceedings

During the off‑season Sterling spent his time searching for a new club, a quest that has so far proved unsuccessful. He has kept busy by coaching at his own RS7 Academy while remaining clubless ahead of his September hearing.
