Legal fight pits Richarlison against Tottenham as Vasco close in

Brazilian striker Richarlison has lodged a legal claim in England’s courts to terminate his contract with Tottenham, while Brazilian side Vasco da Gama intensify their pursuit to sign him before December 2026, despite the English club demanding more than £20 million.

Contract dispute and legal route

He has been at odds with the English club for several weeks, even posting critical messages on social media against Tottenham. The friction grew after the club refused to register him in the Premier League squad, limiting his participation to cup games or the under‑21 side.

Tottenham attempted to move him to fellow England side Everton, but Richarlison rejected the financial terms offered. Meanwhile, the north London club had also been interested in Ndiaye, whose transfer to Manchester City collapsed, prompting Tottenham to claim the failed Everton talks were due to Richarlison’s initial refusal.

Negotiations with Turkish side Trabzonspor added further strain. The club presented two offers – £15 million and £20 million – both turned down by Tottenham, which still seeks a fee above £20 million for a permanent deal.

Richarlison’s representatives have now turned to Justice, filing for unilateral termination so he can join Vasco. He likened his case to that of Renan Lodi, who secured a similar release after a registration dispute in Saudi Arabia.

“After everything I’ve been through in recent years, I decided that NEVER AGAIN will they decide my future for me. Pressure, threat, retaliation – none of that scares me,” Richarlison said.
“I have always made clear that any move would have to be good for the club. I stayed and gave my life. I hope they treat my situation with the same respect I have always had for the Spurs and everyone who worked with me,” he added.

Vasco’s bid and financial hurdle

Vasco, a club from South America, has mobilised its supporters on social media, with the GE Vasco channel highlighting the striker’s desire to wear the club’s shirt. The player accepted a loan on Tuesday, but a FIFA limit on this type of transfer initially stalled the arrangement with Tottenham.

While Vasco’s management, including Pedrinho, continue talks to purchase Richarlison, the club admits it cannot meet Tottenham’s asking price of over £20 million. Nevertheless, Richarlison’s personal wish to play for the Rio de Janeiro side until December 2026 remains the decisive factor in the ongoing negotiations.
