Leeds climbs to third place – Whites make a statement after own goal

Leeds United has moved into third place in the Premier League after a convincing 4-1 win over Newcastle United. Despite an own goal from Lewis Miley in the 32nd minute, the team remained in front and clearly highlighted the current league position.

First defeat for former Salzburg coach Jaissle

The side coached by former Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle had to accept its first league defeat. For the “The Whites” this was an important signal that they can challenge the competition in the top third of the table.

At halftime Leeds were leading 3-0, after Lewis Miley had scored an own goal (32'), Jayden Bogle (34') and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (45+1') found the net. The goals were recorded as clear strikes in the first half.

After the restart, Noah Okafor increased the score to 4-0 in the 59th minute, before Bazoumana Toure scored the consolation goal for Newcastle in the 90th minute. Thus the match ended with a clear victory for Leeds.

In the table Leeds and Hull City are now level on eight points, while the top duo Arsenal and Manchester City have twelve points from four games. Newcastle sit on five points in twelfth place.

The Whites remain unbeaten after the win and solidify their place in the battle for European spots. The performance of LEEDS, UNITED and NEWCASTLE shows that the season has only just begun.
