Leao favors Aston Villa while Milan hold out for full price

Portugal international Rafael Leao has told AC Milan he prefers a move to Premier League side Aston Villa over Turkish club Galatasaray, yet the English club’s €7.5 million‑a‑year salary proposal still falls short of Milan’s €50 million valuation as the summer window closes.

Leao has been pushing for a move away from San Siro since the end of the 2025‑26 season, but no agreement has materialised yet. He remains on the market in the final week of the summer transfer window. He was seen reacting after Portugal’s defeat to the Republic of Ireland in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on 13 November 2025.

Reports over the last few days name Aston Villa and Galatasaray as the two clubs vying for his signature. Galatasaray are prepared to offer more money on personal terms, with wages reported around €10‑12 million.

Villa’s financial package

Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio says Aston Villa have raised their salary offer to €7.5 million net per season, aligning with Premier League standards. The English side’s proposal reflects the club’s desire to secure the Portugal international.

Despite the increased wage offer, Villa have not yet reached an agreement with Milan, leaving the Rossoneri unsatisfied. Milan continue to hold out for a deal that meets their valuation.

Milan’s valuation and options

AC Milan are hoping to sell Leao outright this summer for a fee of €50 million. Villa have discussed a loan arrangement with an €8 million fee and a €42 million obligation to buy, together matching the €50 million target.

Calciomercato.com reports Villa are also prepared to offer an immediate permanent solution for €46 million, including bonuses, as an alternative to the loan structure.

The contrast between Leao’s clear preference for Villa and Milan’s high price demand highlights a stalemate as the transfer window draws to a close, leaving both parties to negotiate further.
