League-bound Spanish Betis close on irish striker Troy Parrott
Irish forward Troy Parrott is on the verge of joining Spanish club Real Betis, the Champions League‑bound side, after a prolific campaign that saw him net 16 goals in 28 Eredivisie matches and deliver decisive strikes for the Republic of Ireland.
The deal between Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and Betis is reported to be all but finalised, signalling the Dubliner’s imminent departure.
Betis chase La Liga goal‑getter
Real Betis, high‑flyers in La Liga, have targeted Parrott for his proven scoring record, hoping his goals will bolster a squad already bound for the Champions League.
The Dubliner joined AZ Alkmaar just over two years ago from Spurs after a loan spell at Excelsior Rotterdam, bringing experience from both English and Dutch football.
In the Dutch league season he finished with 16 goals in 28 games, a strike rate that underscored his reputation as a prolific forward.
Internationally, Parrott scored both goals in a 2‑0 win over Portugal and, three days later, a hat‑trick that included a last‑gasp winner in a 3‑2 victory away to Hungary.
The move offers Betis a proven goal scorer for their Champions League campaign, while Parrott gains the chance to compete at the highest European level with the Spanish side.
