Club Brugge, the Blue and Black, on track in Europe for the Club World Cup
Club Brugge can contemplate a participation in the Club World Cup in 2029, according to calculations by Football Meets Data, which place them among the qualified teams despite their 14th place in the European ranking.
Qualification rules and European spots
The new format reserves twelve spots for Europe. The Champions League winners during the qualification cycle obtain a direct ticket, like Paris Saint‑Germain, already secured thanks to its triumph in 2025.
The remaining eight spots are allocated based on Champions League performances over four seasons, from 2024/2025 to 2027/2028, with a maximum of two clubs per country, except for the champions.
Current ranking and excluded clubs
Club Brugge accumulates 46 points, which virtually places them in a qualifying zone, alongside Sporting CP, the only clubs outside the “Big‑5” to reach this threshold.
Giants like Manchester City and Atlético de Madrid are currently without a ticket, because their countries already have two higher‑ranked clubs.
In England, Arsenal and Liverpool outrank Manchester City and Aston Villa; in Spain, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are ahead of Atlético de Madrid; in Germany, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund occupy the qualifying spots, relegating Bayer Leverkusen out of the table.
Atalanta also shares 46 points with Club Brugge, while PSV Eindhoven follows with 42 points, showing that the margin is very slim.
Future Champions League winners in 2027 and 2028 could still alter the distribution of spots, making Club Brugge’s qualification uncertain but realistic.
