Lautaro Rivero between Bologna and Udinese as River Plate fights finances
The Argentine club River Plate is going through a serious economic and technical crisis, prompting the executives to look for quick revenue. In this context, central defender Lautaro Rivero, 22, with a contract until 2029, a talent who was also close to the Seleccion, has been offered to Bologna and Udinese, at a now reduced price.
Reduced financial demand
Three‑four months ago the initial demand was around fifteen million euros. After recent performances, the Argentine club has agreed to lower it to about ten million, with a fixed part of at least eight million and a small share linked to easily attainable bonuses.
River Plate, a historic club, is in great trouble both financially and technically. The executives want a deep overhaul and need to raise cash to support the project. Recently, its first‑team space has diminished because of the presence of Otamendi.
Rivero's agents have already sent the profile to two Italian clubs: Bologna and Udinese. Bologna could be interested, but its offer would not exceed six million, a figure well below the Millonarios' initial demand.
Brighton, a Premier League side, has also shown interest in the Argentine defender, but so far no deal has taken off.
It remains to be seen how the situation will evolve with the start of the winter transfer window, when the proposals may materialise.
