Champions League WOMEN
Late Real Madrid winner disallowed as Man City hold on
Manchester City were saved by the rules as they drew 1‑1 at home with Real Madrid in the Women’s Champions League on Thursday, 1 October 2026. In the final minute Silvia Cristobal struck what looked like a winner, but referee Silvia Gasperotti disallowed it after a clash with City’s Beth Mead.
Early breakthrough and disallowed goal
Linda Caicedo gave Real the lead after 29 minutes, putting the visitors ahead early in the game. The advantage lasted until the final minute when Silvia Cristobal appeared to double the lead, only for the goal to be ruled out following the collision with Beth Mead.
City’s second‑half response
Khadija Shaw restored parity after 51 minutes, driving the ball home to level the match. City’s increased pressing in the second half forced Real Madrid to sit deeper and defend more cautiously.
“We tried the second half much better than we started the first half,” Shaw told Disney+. “Disappointed that we didn’t win the game but definitely fight to the end and that’s good.”
Both sides finished the night with two draws each and sit just inside the top‑twelve of the competition. Elsewhere, Inter Milan’s draw in Vienna left reigning champions Barcelona, who thrashed Roma on Wednesday, as the only team with six points after two rounds.
The day after Paris FC hosted their first Women’s Champions League home game at Stade Jean Bouin, PSG’s women’s side entertained Leuven at their suburban training centre. Rasheedat Ajibade gave the hosts the lead after nine minutes, before Naomie Feller added two goals and Sakina Karchaoui and Vitoria Yaya completed the rout.
In the early stages of the tournament, Modesta Uka scored Austria Vienna’s first goal, while Inter Milan captain Ivana Andres levelled in added time to secure a 1‑1 draw. In Denmark, HB Koge crushed Swiss side Servette 5‑1, adding another result to the opening round.
