LASK coach Dietmar Kühbauer dismisses Russian offer, stays put
LASK coach Dietmar Kühbauer, who is steering the Austrian side at the top of the current Bundesliga season, told the ORF programme “Football on Sunday” that he has turned down an offer from Russia and will remain with LASK until his contract expires next summer.
During the interview, Kühbauer reaffirmed his loyalty, saying “It is not a current topic for me, I commit to LASK.” He emphasized that a move is completely out of the question at this stage. The comments were reported by UWE WINTER Wien.
Russian offer dismissed
When asked whether an offer had been made, the 55‑year‑old Burgenland native answered simply “Russia.” He added that working in the war‑torn nation is “unthinkable” and “never a topic” for him.
Commitment to LASK
Kühbauer said he feels “very comfortable” at LASK, noting that the squad has already achieved a milestone and now has the chance to play internationally. He described the situation as “not the worst thing” and expressed pride in the progress.
He stated he does not think about a move “for a second,” arguing that staying would be dishonest to the club, the players and the fans if he were only there for a job. “I try to create something good and to move things forward,” he declared.
Even at his age, Kühbauer believes the hunger must not be lost, insisting that a coach must keep the drive alive.
ORF expert Roman Mählich suggested that Kühbauer’s temperament might explain the lack of offers from larger European leagues. The coach replied that anyone who has watched him since his Rapid days knows he is far from that, adding that every emotion is now “contained” and that he has learned to channel it.
Kühbauer’s contract with LASK runs until the coming summer, confirming his short‑term future remains tied to the Austrian club.
