Laporta slams Super Data FIFA as Raphinha injury looms over Barcelona

Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, criticised the FIFA Super Data after learning that Brazilian forward Raphinha suffered a right‑thigh muscular edema in Brazil's 4‑2 win over Australia, raising concerns about his availability for upcoming La Liga and Champions League fixtures.

Injury details and medical outlook

The injury was diagnosed as a muscular edema in Raphinha's right thigh, the same area that troubled him in two earlier call‑ups for Brazil. Barcelona's medical staff will await the result of a magnetic resonance scan before deciding on his rehabilitation plan. Laporta told Catalunya Radio, “It is a piece of news that worries us a lot. We are not happy with this. It has happened to others and this is the risk of such long breaks.” Raphinha had opened the scoring from the spot in the first half before withdrawing with the thigh problem, and he did not feature in the second half of the 4‑2 victory.

According to the Spanish daily AS, Barcelona is handling the situation with maximum caution and hopes for a swift return if any risk is identified. The same right‑thigh area caused setbacks in two earlier Brazil call‑ups, underscoring the recurring nature of the problem. Barcelona's medical department will study the best way to restore the player for the remainder of the season.

Impact on Barcelona's schedule

Barcelona sit top of La Liga with a perfect record after seven rounds. The Catalan side have amassed 100 percent points after seven league games, sitting firmly at the top of the table. Their next league game is on 10 October at the Camp Nou against Getafe, followed three days later by a Champions League away fixture at Galatasaray on 13 October.

Brazil’s squad will rest on Wednesday and train in Brisbane before travelling to India. The side will face India on Saturday in Calcutta, giving Raphinha a chance to recover before the next international commitment.

All eyes now turn to the MRI scan, as Barcelona hopes the Brazilian forward can return in time for the crucial fixtures.
