Lang praises Allegri’s communication as Napoli turn a page on Conte

Noa Lang opened his post‑match interview by saying, “This Napoli coach talks to me, which is new”, after the Netherlands international helped SSC Napoli to a 3‑0 Serie A win over Frosinone at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, scoring his first goal of the season following a loan spell at Galatasaray in January.

Lang's record under Conte

During Antonio Conte’s two‑year spell, Lang made 27 competitive appearances for Napoli, delivering one goal and two assists, but only nine of those came in the starting eleven. The winger repeatedly criticised Conte in the press, describing the previous season as tough. Conte departed in the summer after those two seasons, leaving the squad in transition.

Allegri's impact on the winger

Max Allegri took charge in the summer and immediately altered the communication style with the Dutch winger. “First of all, he talks with me, which is perhaps something I missed last season,” Lang said, adding that Allegri gives him more freedom to find spaces on the pitch. The manager is known for a fairly defensive approach, yet Lang feels the atmosphere has shifted. He noted that Allegri tells him what he does well and where he can improve, allowing him to operate more autonomously.

Speaking to Italian media after the match, Lang told Italia, “Everybody knows I had a tough season with the other coach. I feel the confidence of this coach, I feel the belief in me, and I have to show in every minute of the game that I work hard for the team.” He added that he needs to improve his fitness but believes the beginning is there. The comments were made in Napoli, Italy, during the post‑match press conference.

His strike opened the scoring and set the tone for the 3‑0 victory, marking a fresh start after his loan to Galatasaray in January. The goal came in the first half and gave Napoli control of the match. The victory moved Napoli higher up the Serie A table, reinforcing their push for European spots.

For Napoli, Allegri now has a motivated attacker willing to work hard under his guidance. For Lang, the change offers a chance to rebuild his reputation after a difficult spell under Conte, and he hopes the improvement will also catch the eye of the Netherlands national team selectors.
