Lamborghini accident burdens former international Raheem Sterling

After the accident, former English football national player Raheem Sterling pleaded guilty in Basingstoke before the magistrate for dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide as well as other offences, after he crashed his Lamborghini into a guardrail on May 28. Police confirmed that no one was injured.

Career highlights

Sterling was a regular member of the English national team from 2012 to 2022, earning 82 caps, including the 2018 World Cup semi‑final and the 2020 European Championship final. In the Premier League he made 396 appearances, scored 123 goals and provided 75 assists.

After a transfer worth over €50 million from Manchester City to Chelsea in the summer of 2022, he stayed there until January without playing for the first team. In February he joined Dutch side Feyenoord, made eight appearances, recorded one assist and left the club at the end of the season.

Legal consequences

On May 28, Sterling drove his Lamborghini southbound on the M3 when he crashed into a guardrail without any other party involved. Police confirmed that no one was injured.

At the Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possession of six nitrous oxide canisters, a Class‑C drug. He also refused to provide a sample for a drug test.

A source close to Sterling said he has gone through “extremely difficult years” and lately feels “worthless” and “forgotten”. The former star striker now stands not on the pitch, but before the court.

The sentencing is expected to be announced on November 25, with a driving ban already imposed. After the verdict it remains unclear whether Sterling will receive another club opportunity.
