LaLiga blocks Carvajal's move to Getafe over unrealistic salary
The former Real Madrid full‑back, Dani Carvajal, was left unable to sign for Getafe because LaLiga has not validated his contract, deeming the €400,000 annual salary unrealistic, a 96 % reduction compared to the €10 million he earned at the white club.
LaLiga rejects the proposed salary
The regulations apply to all LaLiga clubs and are designed to prevent illegal payments outside the contract. When a player accepts a fraction of what he earned, the league suspects that the difference may be received by another means, so it reviews his career and previous contracts. In Carvajal's case, the jump from €10 million to €400,000 is considered too large, and without LaLiga's approval Getafe cannot register him.
LaLiga's financial experts do not believe that figure is realistic for a footballer who was earning 25 times more just four months ago. The 96 % reduction is seen as unrealistic, and analysts warn that the proposed salary does not match the player's level.
Carvajal's future at Getafe
Ángel Torres, Getafe president, confirmed that the deal is at risk and quoted: “There are no updates. There is no agreement; you cannot break what does not exist. But we will try.” He added that all parties – LaLiga, the player and the club – must give their “ok” for the transaction to move forward.
José Bordalás spoke personally with Carvajal to explain his role, seeing him as a wing‑back. Moreover, the Coliseum offered him the possibility of staying close to Madrid, a personal priority for the final stage of his career.
Carvajal, 34, has been out of contract since June 30, the date his link with the white club expired. That status allows him to sign outside the transfer window, but any agreement remains subject to LaLiga's validation.
The summer has already closed several doors for the player, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Leganés and Betis. These rejections left the full‑back without options, now concentrating all hope on Getafe.
The only way for the signing to materialise is through a figure that LaLiga deems realistic, and that figure is far from the €400,000 the club can afford. The coming hours will be decisive in determining whether the deal progresses or falls through.
