Laimer's new deal bolsters Bayern Munich under Kompany's vision
621 – Konrad Laimer has signed a fresh contract to stay at Bayern Munich, a move celebrated by Belgian coach Vincent Kompany as essential for the club’s continued success. The Austrian international, now a long‑term Bayern player, will remain in Munich under the guidance of the former Manchester City captain.
Laimer developed into a pivotal figure at Bayern under the direction of Vincent Kompany, who frequently relied on the right‑back’s consistency. The coach highlighted Laimer’s reliability, noting that he rarely disappointed when called upon.
He was a decisive member of Bayern München in the 2025/26 campaign, a season that saw the club crowned German champion. Kompany’s tactical plans often featured Laimer, especially in crucial matches.
Across all competitions Laimer logged 47 appearances for Bayern, demonstrating his versatility and endurance. His contributions spanned league, cup and European fixtures, cementing his status as a regular starter.
Laimer arrived from RB Leipzig in July 2023 and expressed delight at the contract extension. "Wearing the Bayern shirt is something very special for me," he said, adding that he is happy in München and enjoys playing for the team.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, welcomed the news, stating that Laimer’s story at the club will continue. He praised Laimer’s reliability at the highest level and his ability to inspire teammates daily.
Sporting director Christoph Freund also commented on the extension, emphasizing the Austrian’s work ethic, mentality and positional flexibility as valuable assets for the squad.
Vincent Kompany himself lauded Laimer’s energy and determination, calling him a hard worker who provides technical solutions and lifts the whole team’s performance.
During the summer, Laimer featured for Austria at the World Cup, starting four matches. Austria finished second in its group behind Argentina before being eliminated by Spain 3‑0 in the round of 16.
