La FIFA dismisses operations chief after Infantino criticism

La FIFA confirmed on Monday that its chief operations officer, Kevin Lamour, was dismissed after publicly denouncing President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a stake in the tournament business, including the World Cup. The decision follows Lamour’s remarks that the plan served personal interests rather than football’s global mission.

Termination date confirmed

A FIFA spokesperson said the governing body can confirm that the employment relationship with Kevin Lamour as director of operations ended on 17 August 2026. The statement added that Lamour had served for two years.

The federation also expressed gratitude, saying, “La FIFA agradece a Kevin sus dos años de servicio y le desea suerte.” No further comments were promised. The statement was issued in both English and Spanish, referring to the organismo que rige el Fútbol mundial.

Lamour had publicly claimed he was “deceived” by FIFA staff regarding the plan and described it as “the project of a single person, despite our mission to serve football, not the interests of someone who mistakenly believes he embodies FIFA.” El comunicado también subrayó la importancia de la transparencia.

Scottish FA withdraws support

Also on Monday, the Scottish Football Association announced it would no longer back Gianni Infantino and will not vote for him in the re‑election process. The decision was linked to the attempted privatization of the tournament business.

Following Lamour’s departure, FIFA abandoned the proposed sale of a stake in its tournament operations, including the Copa del Mundo. The organization said the move aligns with its commitment to keep the tournament business under collective control.
