Kovac draws a personal line against Sancho's return at Dortmund
The English press reports that Jadon Sancho is not returning to Borussia Dortmund, because coach Niko Kovac has personally put a line through the transfer of the 26‑year‑old forward. Sancho is currently enjoying free‑agent status after his contract with Manchester United expired last summer.
The Germans sold him in 2021 for €85 million to Manchester United, where he had his best spell and played the most matches. His departure marked the end of a successful period at the club.
In the meantime, Sancho was loaned back to his former employer, helping him reach the Champions League final. The temporary return, however, did not provide a permanent solution.
After his return to the red part of Manchester, Sancho found no place, leading to loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa. Those periods yielded few playing minutes.
New interested clubs
Sancho is now enjoying free‑agent status and is attracting interest from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Because he is not under contract anywhere, he can be signed outside the transfer windows.
The loss of summer signing Giannis Konstantelias also changes nothing for the Croat, who now hopes for Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri. The club Dortmund faces a new challenge.
For the 26‑year‑old forward, a third return to Dortmund is now definitively off the table, while he remains without a new employer. His future remains uncertain despite the interest.
