Kompany shrugs off Man City verdict while Maresca stays confident
Vincent Kompany has issued his first comment on Manchester City’s guilty verdict, saying he is ‘not too occupied’ with the Premier League’s finding that the club breached financial rules in the majority of 115 charges. The former captain, now Bayern Munich manager, made the remarks while Enzo Maresca insisted the club remains convinced it will win the appeal.
Verdict and Appeal
An independent commission found Manchester City guilty of all charges relating to breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. The club has appealed, claiming the ruling contains ‘clear material errors of law, principle and fact and is unsafe’.
Enzo Maresca told reporters the owners are convinced they will overturn the decision, adding, “The reason why I joined this club is because I completely trust, 100 per cent, the owner, the CEO, the sporting director, the whole organisation.” He also said there is no other club in the world he would rather be at.
Kompany's Response
Vincent Kompany, speaking at a Bayern Munich press conference, said: “I’m only thinking about my work at FC Bayern. We have important games coming up and there’s not much time to think about other stuff.” He added that everything he achieved as a player at Manchester City makes him proud but he is focused on coaching duties.
Kompany joined Manchester City in 2008 and spent eleven years at the Etihad, becoming captain in 2011 and holding the role until his departure in 2019. He made 360 appearances, scored twenty goals from centre‑back and won twelve trophies, the first three of which fell within the period under investigation.

Kompany made the comments ahead of Bayern’s trip to face Augsburg on Saturday, saying the preparation for that game dominates his thoughts. He reiterated that the Manchester City case will not distract him from the immediate challenge.
Maresca said he would address the situation again once the appeal is won, insisting the club’s past titles remain untarnished. He concluded that his confidence in the organisation remains absolute as they move forward.
