Kompany remains unimpressed by mini‑debates over Joshua Kimmich

On Bayern Munich's training ground, while the sun blazes over the pitch, Vincent Kompany says that the ongoing discussions about Joshua Kimmich's role in the German national team do not affect him. The 31‑year‑old Bayern captain remains an undisturbed factor for the Belgian.

Kimmich was in the DFB squad at the start of the European Championship qualification under Jürgen Klopp, but missed the match against Serbia and subsequently against Greece. While Aleksandar Pavlovic, Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz impressed in midfield, the question about Kimmich's place kept resurfacing.

Debate about Kimmich's national team role

Vincent Kompany tries to stay out of the “mini‑debates” because, in his opinion, they are only minor issues. “I often try to stay out of mini‑debates, because they are mini‑debates,” emphasizes the coach and offers clear words on the subject.

The Belgian believes that the national team is influenced by developments at the club, not the other way around. “I am not influenced by what happens with the national team. I think it is the opposite, that the national team is influenced by what happens at a club,” he explains.

Kompany focuses on club performance

At Bayern Munich, Kimmich remains a central figure, and Kompany trusts his performances, regardless of how Klopp lines him up for the DFB. The coach emphasizes that the assessment of the player at the club is decisive.

Former internationals also comment: Oliver Kahn questioned Kimmich's regular spot, while Lothar Matthäus emphasized that the captain must earn his place repeatedly.

Kompany relies on consistency; as long as Kimmich delivers his performance at Bayern, he sees no reason to discuss his position. For the coach, club performance is paramount, not the media debate.

Through this stance, Kompany creates an environment where Bayern Munich can focus on the pitch, while public discussions about Kimmich's national team role continue to fluctuate.
