Kompany puts Boey under pressure while a Red Devils candidate waits for a chance

While Sacha Boey saw his desired departure from Bayern Munich evaporate this summer, he gets a new chance under Vincent Kompany – but it will be anything but a gift, according to the Belgian coach who discusses the future of the right‑back still referred to as part of the Red Devils.

Financial situation at Bayern

Sacha Boey, the French‑Belgian right‑back with three nationalities, saw his desired departure from Bayern Munich go up in smoke this summer. In recent weeks he was explicitly mentioned as a possible leaver, but he found no new club.

The German record champions spent just over €100 million on reinforcements this summer and recouped €51 million through outgoing transfers. Nevertheless, Boey remained in Munich, and his starting position in the squad is unchanged.

Vincent Kompany makes clear that the door is still open, although Boey faces a tough battle with Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer. “Just in that position we have Stanišić and Laimer, so the competition is fierce,” said the coach.

Kompany confirmed that Bayern has communicated clearly with the former Galatasaray player about his situation. “What I have seen in the past two and a half years in the collaboration with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund is that the club is clear and direct, also in its dealings with players,” he said.

Now that the transfer window is over, Kompany stated: “The transfer window is now closed and Sacha receives our support.” He praised Boey’s attitude in training: “We treat him with respect. He trains very well, and the rest will become clear at the right moment.”

Upcoming Bundesliga challenge

For Bayern Munich the focus shifts to the Bundesliga, where Kompany’s side plays against Elversberg on the third matchday at 17:30. At the moment Elversberg currently sits ahead of Bayern in the table: the home team has six points, while Bayern has four points after two matches.

With a win Bayern can overtake the opponent, but for Boey it remains a difficult task to secure a starting spot. The 25‑year‑old defender must be patient, while he still has a chance to force his place in the squad.
