Kompany condemns Olise after stupid tackle in Champions League duel
Vincent Kompany has, after the Champions League‑duel between Bayern Munich and Viking FK (3‑3), expressed criticism of Michael Olise. The French star player was sent off in Norway for the first time in his career, after receiving two yellow cards in one minute and then a red card.
Criticism of the foolish action
‘Incredibly stupid’, said Kompany, who stated that Olise should have controlled himself better. He described the situation as completely unnecessary and emphasized that Bayern Munich is accustomed to away matches of this caliber, but that this behaviour is unacceptable.
Kompany added that he had told Olise: “That number 10 of the opponent was smarter than you today.” He underscored that Olise’s mistake is one hundred percent his own responsibility.
What exactly happened in Stavanger
On the artificial turf in Stavanger, Olise first grabbed the shirt of Zlatko Tripic, after which a few seconds later he threw a ball into the face of the Viking regular. This stunt followed a goal by Herman Johan Haugen, which marked Viking’s first Champions League‑point in the club’s history.
After a 71st‑minute leading goal for Bayern, Olise received the red card a few minutes later. Harry Kane, who scored two goals, expressed regret: “He must take his responsibility and learn from it.” Kane also noted that Olise’s absence is a loss, especially with important matches in the coming weeks.
Kompany joined Kane’s remarks during the press conference and emphasized that such incidents can be decisive over the course of a season. He saw regret in Olise’s eyes, but stated that there are no excuses for provocative behaviour.
