Kompany applauds Bayern’s blunt policy on returning loanees

Vincent Kompany praised Bayern Munich’s transparent handling of three returning loanees – João Palhinha, Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza – after the club announced they are all available for transfer, a stance he defended at a press conference in Jeju, South Korea, where their combined market value of €33 million was highlighted.

Board member Max Eberl explained that Bayern would prefer to sell the returning players, warning that regular playing time would be difficult to secure should they remain in Munich and emphasizing the club’s desire to clear the squad of those unlikely to feature regularly.

Palhinha returned after a season‑long loan at Tottenham Hotspur, while Boey and Zaragoza also came back from temporary spells away from the German side, experiences that have added to their development but left them on the periphery of the current Bayern roster.

The trio have rejoined Bayern’s Säbener Straße (Stra) headquarters, and with a combined estimated market value of €33 million they represent notable assets on the club’s transfer list, all now listed as available for sale.

Speaking at his first press conference during Bayern’s preseason camp in Jeju, South Korea, Kompany said, “I think it’s positive that the club is communicating clearly with the players. As a player, I would have wanted that back then, too. The club has made a clear statement, so we’re on the same page.”

Kompany’s endorsement suggests the policy benefits both Bayern and the players, giving the club flexibility to offload surplus talent while allowing the loanees to seek regular football elsewhere, and the clear approach may also aid future loan negotiations by setting expectations.
