Klopp warns Germany’s rebuild will be a marathon after Augsburg defeat
Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp told reporters that restoring the German national side will be a gradual process, after a 1-0 loss to Greece on Sunday night at the WWK Arena in Augsburg.
Press conference highlights
At his introductory press conference, Klopp reiterated that “chaos might reign” as he embarks on an ambitious rebuild. He warned that he did not arrive to “solve all the problems with a wave of his hand”.
Reality of the current situation
Klopp acknowledged that German football is “not in the best situation it has ever been”, and that the defeat underlined the challenges ahead. He added, “If anyone didn’t know that, they know it now.”

Patience over quick fixes
The coach stressed that “steps can never be big enough” and “things can never happen quickly enough”, insisting that a future moment will make Germany difficult to beat.
Defending the squad
Klopp defended his players, saying criticism should fall on him rather than the squad, and expressed surprise at the boos heard in the stadium.
Looking ahead
He concluded, “The future is as bright as we make it. We’ll take it on with everything we have and continue on this path.”
