Klopp warns Arsenal of Havertz setback after Nations League injury

In the 30th minute of Germany's Nations League opener against the Netherlands in Amsterdam, Arsenal forward Kai Havertz was forced off with a grimace, clutching his hamstring after a high challenge from Crystal Palace's Quinten Timber, the brother of his Arsenal teammate Jurrien.

Havertz injury update

Germany confirmed that Havertz, 27, underwent a scan after the suspected hamstring injury. He had been taken off in the 30th minute of the 1‑1 draw away to the Netherlands. The challenge that caused the setback came from Crystal Palace's Quinten Timber.

Germany manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking after the 92nd‑minute equaliser, said both Havertz and Jamal Musiala would have scans that evening. “Both will undergo scans tonight,” he told reporters. Klopp added that the two are probably out for Germany but hopes they return soon for their clubs.

Klopp had called up Havertz for only two of Germany's four fixtures in this international window, splitting his 44‑player squad in half. The next match is at home to Greece on Sunday. The German coach hopes the scans will clear the players for club duties.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping the injury is not serious. Havertz has started all five Premier League games this season, contributing three goals across all competitions and dislodging Viktor Gyokeres as the first‑choice striker. Arteta praised his intelligence, work rate and emotional state in recent comments.

The Gunners face a packed programme after the break, with nine games in 27 days, including clashes with Bayern Munich and Liverpool. A perfect run was halted by a 3‑0 defeat to Brighton, allowing Manchester City to overtake them at the top of the Premier League. Havertz's form has been central to Arsenal's strong start.

The 27‑year‑old endured an injury‑hit campaign last season but regained full fitness towards its end, even scoring in the Champions League final. “He is five seconds ahead of the game and makes the people around him better,” Arteta said, highlighting Havertz's impact.

Arsenal's upcoming fixtures

The club, ARSENAL, will monitor Havertz's recovery closely ahead of its next league test against Leeds United at the Emirates on 10 October, followed by a Champions League tie with Lille and away games to Nottingham Forest and Bayern Munich.
