Klopp sees many good impressions in his German debut
Jürgen Klopp made his debut as national team coach with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands and explained his view of the match in the RTL Mikro interview, offering both criticism and praise. He emphasized that the late equaliser had affected the points tally and that he was satisfied despite the draw.
Course of the friendly match
In the 32nd minute, Felix Nmecha put Germany ahead with a goal. The late equaliser from Cody Gakpo came in stoppage time, after Ruben van Bommel delivered an outside‑foot cross that fed the Dutch striker into the penalty area. The substituted Serge Gnabry had previously lost the ball unfortunately. Ruben van Bommel's cross struck the Dutch forward at the perfect moment and set up the decisive goal.
Klopp highlighted the intensity and passion shown by his players and described the full readiness as an important foundation. He stressed that this energy is a positive starting point for the work ahead. Klopp also noted that the defensive stability in the first minutes was still improvable.

Germany slips further in the FIFA ranking under Jürgen Klopp
The national team coach noted that some sequences were not yet natural and emphasized that time was needed for the style of play – especially the gegenpressing – to feel more instinctive for the lads. He referred to a long list of things that were already working well. He highlighted that the offensive actions were often creative, but the finishing quality still needed improvement.
Klopp stressed that the intensity and passion displayed form a solid basis. He is convinced that the team can continue to make progress with this attitude. The squad also showed a high willingness to run, which should be further developed in future games.
Ahead of the home match against Greece on Sunday evening at the WWK Arena of FC Augsburg, Klopp wants to work on the biggest issues and bring more order to the previously positive chaos. He admitted that not everything will run perfectly right away. The game against Greece will serve as the first test for implementing the new tactical guidelines.
