Klopp satisfied with performance in UEFA Nations League draw

National team coach Jürgen Klopp said he was very satisfied with the performance of his eleven after the 1‑1 draw of the German national team against the Netherlands in the opening match of the UEFA Nations League 26/27. He highlighted the displayed passion and several good individual performances, but emphasized the need for improvement.

Klopp analyses the game system

Klopp explained:

"We saw two very good football teams. We came in great, then we had ten minutes of real problems. If the system is not yet set and the processes are not right, then you have to fight for every duel and you need a good goalkeeper. I was very satisfied with many individual performances and the passion, even though we can play better football."

He criticised the short periods in which the team was not organized, and called for more effort in the duels.

Jonathan Tah added:

"We would have liked to win the game. There were chances on both sides. If you lead 1‑0, you want to see it through. We made a good first step. The game was brutally intense. It was not all perfect. But that was not the point. It was about getting a different face onto the pitch."

For him the result was a step forward, even though the team had not played perfectly.

Joshua Kimmich added:

"It felt like an intense football match, where not everything was perfect, but many things felt quite good. Especially at the beginning of the game we pressed well, had some interesting ball recoveries and one or two good chances. After the 1‑0 we unfortunately did not take the huge chance for 2‑0. In the second half you already had the feeling that the Netherlands were getting stronger and had the better chances. All in all it is a well‑deserved draw."

He emphasized that the team remained fighting despite the draw.
