Klopp’s early triumph in Munich fuels debate over Germany’s ideal XI

Germany celebrated a goal against Serbia as the home match in Munich delivered the national team’s first victory under Jürgen Klopp. The German coach has named a pool of 44 players for the four recent internationals, and the majority of those names saw game time.

Extensive squad rotation

Klopp’s selection covered four fixtures, giving him a broad view of the DFB talent pool. Out of the 44 called up, most were deployed on the pitch, allowing the coach to assess a wide range of options.

Among the newcomers, Philipp Treu, Younes Ebnoutalib and Jonas Urbig earned their first caps in the German shirt. Their debuts added fresh faces to a squad that also featured seasoned internationals.

Veteran players such as Serge Gnabry, Marc‑André ter Stegen and Jonathan Tah also featured, providing experience alongside the new arrivals. Their presence underscored the blend of youth and established talent that Klopp is cultivating.

Klopp described his personnel policy as an ‘XXL‑pack of newcomers’ that is ‘alternativlos’, meaning without alternative. The term highlighted his commitment to an expansive rotation policy.

Record‑appearance holder Lothar Matthäus praised the approach on Sky 90, calling it a ‘superb idea’. His endorsement added weight to the coach’s experimental strategy.

Looking ahead to November

Fans were asked to vote on the best possible starting eleven for the upcoming November fixtures, including the 13 November match in Belgrade against Serbia. A further Nations League clash sees the Netherlands visiting Berlin, where Germany secured a 1‑1 draw after leading late in the game.

A win in the Berlin encounter could see Germany qualify for the quarter‑finals in March, before the tournament’s final four in the summer. The outcomes of these matches will shape the composition of the side Klopp ultimately fields.
