Klopp maps the way forward for Germany's U21 after clinching Euro ticket
Germany's under‑21 side have booked their place at next summer's European Championship after a 2‑0 win over Georgia, securing direct qualification and bypassing the November play‑offs. The ticket covers the tournament in Albania and Serbia from 16 June to 3 July, and the next key date is the group‑draw on 26 November in Belgrade.
Klopp watches the youth squad closely
Bundestrainer Jürgen Klopp is said to be monitoring the U21 team closely, assessing which players might graduate to the senior side. He is particularly interested in the prospects of Tom Bischof, Lennart Karl and other emerging talents. The DFB sporting director Rudi Völler and future chief executive Per Mertesacker were not present at the celebratory match, but their roles remain under observation.
National coach Antonio Di Salvo congratulated his players on the qualification, noting that “football is also a bit of daily business, developments must be awaited”. He praised the atmosphere, saying the squad celebrated to the sounds of “Major Tom” with happy faces.
Future fixtures and the road ahead
Although the direct qualification removes the need for play‑offs, the U21 will still play two test matches at home and away, with opponents and dates yet to be confirmed. The decisive draw on 26 November will determine the composition of the four final‑round groups.
Di Salvo added that the pathway remains open for talent, recalling that more than three dozen players have featured since the cycle began in September 2025. He highlighted the three U17 world champions of 2023 – Paris Brunner, Noah Darvich and Finn Jeltsch – as part of the talent pool feeding the U21 squad.
Looking ahead, the German team is consistently counted among title contenders, having reached the final in four of the last five editions and winning twice. The final assessment of title chances will depend on the squad available next year, but the recent qualification reinforces their status as a favourite.
