Klopp makes his debut and aims to revive German football

Jürgen Klopp made his debut as head coach of the German national team in the first international match against the Netherlands, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Felix Nmecha put the DFB eleven in the lead after half an hour, before Cody Gakpo equalised in stoppage time.

Since his appointment as head coach, German football has been in an emergency state according to the media. The charismatic successful coach, formerly at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, is being compared to the legendary German football emperor Franz Beckenbauer, while the tabloids spread the slogan “Black‑Red‑Klopp”.

First international match: Germany vs the Netherlands

Felix Nmecha scored the first goal for the DFB eleven after thirty minutes. Goalkeeper Marc‑Andre ter Stegen, the new number 1, held the Netherlands back in the opening minutes and became the hero of the early phase of the game.

In classic Manuel‑Neuer style, the 34‑year‑old Klopp coach defended with hands and feet to prevent any goal. His saves repeatedly forced the Dutch attackers into frustration and kept the German lead for a long time.

In stoppage time, Cody Gakpo, who once played under Klopp at Liverpool, scored the well‑deserved equaliser. Thus Jürgen Klopp's debut ended with one point for Germany.

The 1‑1 result leaves the German national team with mixed feelings. Without the new number 1 Marc‑Andre ter Stegen, Jürgen Klopp would have even been standing on a losing position in his premiere.
