Klopp cuts Schlotterbeck from Nations League squad for Greece

Jürgen Klopp must remove a player from the matchday squad and may only take 23 of the 24 nominated. On the official UEFA list the 26‑year‑old centre‑back Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund is now missing, meaning he will miss the Nations League match against Greece.

Goalkeeper change before Greece

Already on Saturday Klopp announced that Alexander Nübel will take over the goal from Marc‑André ter Stegen. This decision follows the clear pattern that he made no changes in the first home game against the Netherlands, but now rotates in the goal area.

Injuries and squad rotation

It is quite possible that Yann Bisseck from Inter Milan will line up alongside Jonathan Tah in the back four to compensate for Schlotterbeck’s absence. Schlotterbeck had only recently returned from a months‑long injury lay‑off, after he suffered an inner ligament tear in his ankle at the World Cup in the summer.

Klopp had nominated a total of 24 players for the four Nations League matches, but may only include 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers in the matchday squad. For the first game in Amsterdam he included the Hoffenheim youngster Bambasé Conté, but announced that another player will be used for the second match.

Two further squad changes were already set: Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala were injured against the Netherlands and returned to their clubs. Jonathan Burkardt and Florian Wirtz then moved into the squad, although they were originally only intended for the second squad.
