Klara Schlegel's injury weighs on Austria's women's test

Austria's women's national team lost on Saturday the second World Cup test match against the Faroe Islands 27‑32. In the first half they were up to three goals ahead in Tulln. At half‑time it was 12‑13.
Injury overshadows the match
The match was overshadowed by an injury to Klara Schlegel, who had celebrated her 50th international cap before the game. She suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury in the first half and had to be taken out of the hall after 24 minutes amid cries of pain. A precise diagnosis is still pending.
Team manager Monique Tijsterman commented: “We started quite okay, it was a tight game. But when that happened with Klara, it left a strong impression. With such cries of pain everyone knows it’s something serious.” She explained that the squad tried to refocus during the break, but made many technical errors that cannot be overcome against the fighting Faroe Islands.
In the first test on Thursday the ÖHB women squandered a temporary five‑goal lead. Ultimately the game ended in a 33‑33 draw.
The double international match forms the penultimate phase of preparation for the European Championship finals in the Czech Republic in December. Ahead of the tournament there is still a three‑nation tournament in Tatabanya against Hungary and Slovakia.
