Klara Bühl drives DFB women toward the top of World Cup qualifying
Klara Bühl (number 19) impressed in the international match against Japan with a goal and an assist, propelling the DFB‑Frauen to a 2-1 win in Bremen as they continued on the road to the 2027 World Cup. Head coach Christian Wück called her a "world‑class player" and emphasized her importance to the team.
Successes since the European semi‑final
Since the semi‑final loss to Spain in July last year in Zurich, where the Spanish team won 1:0, the DFB‑Frauen‑Team have played twelve matches. Only one game ended without a goal, the second leg of the Nations League against “La Furia Roja” (0:3).
A goalless draw against Austria in the World Cup qualifiers completed the record, while the remaining appearances were counted as victories, most recently against Japan.
Wück’s strategy and outlook
Wück explained that the team, by beating the Asian champions, moves further towards the international top. He referred to the upcoming draw for the World Cup group stage on December 11 in Rio de Janeiro, where Germany could start in the top pot thanks to its third place in the world ranking.
A planned South America trip at the end of November is intended to give the players insight into the playing styles of Argentina and Brazil, with both opponents described as “at a high level.”
Voices from the team
Jule Brand, 23, who has been developing since her move to Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, saw great potential in the team and spoke of the goal to “become world champion if possible.”
Sjoeke Nüsken from FC Chelsea praised the energy shown and emphasized that the team believes in itself and that a conceded goal does not derail it. Elisa Senß, who recently transferred to Real Madrid, also contributed to stability in midfield.
Momoko Tanikawa of FC Bayern scored the early goal for Japan, but Bühl set up the equaliser for Linda Dallmann (28) and eventually scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute.
On a scale of one to ten, Bühl rated her performance as “7 to 7.5,” confirming her high level. Wück added that he knows no male footballer who is as technically proficient with both feet as Bühl, and highlighted her role as a “cheerful nature” for the team chemistry.
