Klara Bühl lets Bayern triumph in Lisbon after City frustration

At the Estádio da Luz, where the Munich women had suffered a 2:2 draw against Manchester City just a week ago, they celebrated on Tuesday the first win of this Champions‑League season. Klara Bühl opened the game in the 74th minute, followed by Pernille Harder (80') and Franziska Kett (88'), so FC Bayern won 3:0 against Benfica Lisbon.

Early difficulties and turning point

Until halftime the Bayern‑women could hardly create any notable chances. A missed cross from Bühl was lightly knocked over the bar by goalkeeper Lena Pauels. Sporting director Bianca Rech sharply criticised the half‑time performance: “A lot is missing, we cannot be satisfied at all. In front of goal we are simply weak. That is clearly not enough.”

After the interval the attack remained goalless at first, until Bühl struck from distance over the inner post. Her assist enabled Harder and Kett each to score the goal that sealed the victory.

Coaching decisions and outlook

Coach José Barcala rotates almost completely three days after the DFB‑Cup debacle against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2:1); only Franziska Kett and Jovana Damnjanovic remained in the starting eleven. The win gave Bayern three crucial points in the battle for the knockout round, but the last four league matches promise tough challenges: on October 28 Real Madrid follows, then Paris Saint‑Germain, Austria Wien and defending champion FC Barcelona.

In the meantime Barcelona celebrated a 6:0 win over AS Roma for their second big victory and took over the top of the table. New international Lisa Baum was in the starting eleven for the 2:2 draw with FC Arsenal, while Selina Cerci and goalkeeper Anneke Borbe did not feature.

The success in Lisbon gives the German double‑winner new confidence, but Barcala emphasizes that the upcoming matches are decisive for progressing in the competition.
