Kimi Antonelli and Torino: two challenges to make history
Kimi Antonelli, 20 years and two months old, faces the United States Grand Prix in Austin with his first chance to become world champion in Formula 1. At the same time, Torino secured a 3‑2 victory over Monza, the first series of three consecutive wins since 2019.
Austin weekend and the title chase
The weekend began in Austin, where free practice sessions have already taken place with Italian driver Kimi Antonelli. Antonelli, who is 20 years and two months old, approaches the United States Grand Prix with the confidence of someone who knows he has five more opportunities available. Extending the lead by another 23 points over Russell already in the United States is considered very difficult, but the 102-point advantage over his teammate eliminates any doubt about the future champion of 2026.
Torino: three wins and future prospects
Torino won 3‑2 against Monza, achieving the first series of three consecutive victories since 2019, a period spanning from 23 February to 10 March. At that time Antonelli was still attending middle school, while the maroon team, coached by Walter Mazzarri, had beaten Atalanta, ChievoVerona and Frosinone. These three wins allowed the club to finish the season with 63 points, securing seventh place in the table and guaranteeing participation in the Europa League the following season.
Ismajli's early foul sparks tension as Torino host Monza
Current manager Ignazio Abate described the three consecutive wins as “feet on the ground”. He added: “If we feel satisfied, it is the beginning of the end”. He also noted that “everyone likes being up there in the table, but we have done nothing”. His words underline caution despite the good result.
Torino currently occupies sixth place in the table with thirteen points, awaiting the remaining nine fixtures of the eighth round. The next match will be against Como; a win would take the club to a fourth consecutive victory, a result not seen since the 2014/15 season, when Antonio Ventura was on the bench. Antonelli, who this weekend has his first chance to become world champion, was still in elementary school at that time. The club now looks to the upcoming challenges to consolidate its position in the table.
