Kevin Nagle faces Huddersfield decision on Ipswich midfielder Humphreys
Huddersfield Town are preparing to make midfielder Cameron Humphreys' loan from Ipswich Town permanent, a move that Kevin Nagle must finalise before the player turns 24 later this month. Humphreys arrived on loan in January and has already become a regular in the side. The decision comes as the club looks to solidify its squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
Why Huddersfield want Humphreys
Martin Drury, who took charge as caretaker manager in March, worked closely with Humphreys last term and knows exactly what the player can deliver. His performances helped Huddersfield finish the 2025/26 season strongly, even though promotion was missed. Securing him permanently would give the club an immediate quality boost for another promotion push.
Humphreys' rise through the ranks
The midfielder broke through under Kieran McKenna during Ipswich's final two League One campaigns, winning both the academy Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards. A loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers in 2024/25 proved hugely beneficial, earning him the club's Player of the Season accolade. After returning to Ipswich and struggling for minutes, he joined Huddersfield on loan in January and has since been described as a key player.

For Huddersfield, turning Humphreys' loan into a permanent deal would provide the stability the 23‑year‑old needs, especially as his opportunities at Ipswich appear increasingly limited. Even if the club does not achieve promotion this season, the player is viewed as someone worth building around in whatever division they occupy next August.
Humphreys' prime years are on the horizon, and spending them playing Championship football rather than moving between temporary homes could be crucial for his development. Securing a long‑term contract before he turns 24 would therefore be a strategic priority for both the player and Kevin Nagle's recruitment plan.
