Kevin De Bruyne says he'll stay for Nations League, Courtois sits out
Kevin De Bruyne told reporters on Tuesday, three days before Belgium meet Italy in the Nations League on Friday, that he remains fully operational for the national side and has no intention of withdrawing like goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. He reiterated his commitment during a press conference organised by the Belgian federation, stressing the importance of the upcoming Ligue fixture.
“Deviens fan de Belgique!” the midfielder, who plies his trade at Naples, said, adding that after the World Cup he felt enjoyment and that many teammates urged him to stay, giving him extra energy. “I also spoke with the national team manager,” he said, “I am here to help the young players and to keep pushing my limits each day.”
He admitted he did not know Mark van Bommel well before the Dutchman took charge of the Red Devils, but has now spoken with him several times. “He is a typical Dutchman, very direct in his communication,” De Bruyne added.

Van Bommel welcomed Courtois' choice to sit out the Nations League, noting the squad already has capable goalkeepers to replace the Real Madrid keeper. The coach said the decision poses no problem for the team’s preparations.

Thibaut Courtois recently announced he will not feature in Belgium’s Nations League fixtures, a move that van Bommel accepted without criticism. The Dutch coach argued the depth in goalkeeping makes the absence manageable.
When asked whether he had considered following Courtois, De Bruyne replied, “I haven’t really thought about it because I feel good. That is why I want to continue in this way. It has never been a subject for me.”
