Keane urges Foden to the bus after a red Derby sending‑off

Roy Keane delivers a sharp verdict on Phil Foden after his red card in the Manchester Derby, while Foden himself responded to the fans with a provocative gesture – a contrast between harsh criticism and his own protest.

Foden was sent off at halftime after a kick against Bruno Fernandes. The dismissal occurred in the first half of the derby match between Manchester United and Manchester City.

Despite being a man down, Manchester City won the derby 1-0. The result stood unchanged, even though City had only ten men on the field.

After the final whistle, Foden was booed by United fans and called a cheat. In response, he indicated the 1-0 score with his fingers, which Keane called completely inappropriate.

Keane's sharp message in the podcast

In the podcast "Stick to Football" Keane criticised Foden's reaction and urged him to simply get on the team bus after a dismissal. He also mocked videos in which Foden works on individual skills, and pointed to his problems in front of goal.

The dismissal carries a suspension of three matches. Consequently, Foden will miss the games against Norwich, Sunderland and Liverpool.

The English international has gone nine months and 43 appearances for club and country without a goal. Nevertheless, he featured in all six City matches so far this season and started five times.

Ahead of the next squad selection for England it looks like Foden will again be omitted, after he was already left out of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad in the summer.
