Karius brushes off Klopp talk after Schalke’s decisive win

Under the floodlights of Berlin’s An der Alten Försterei, Schalke 04’s goalkeeper Loris Karius pulled off a string of late saves that sealed a 3‑1 victory over Union Berlin, delivering the club’s first Bundesliga win since the royal blues returned, and answering a lingering Frage about the DFB‑Tor that had eluded them.

No contact with Klopp, no pressure

When asked whether he had spoken to national team manager Jürgen Klopp, the keeper (Torhüter) gave a clear answer: “No, I have not had any Kontakt with him.” He added that the media’s Lobeshymnen had not drawn him any nearer to the national set‑up.

Later, Karius addressed the possibility of a DFB‑Nominierung. “Ich schätze weder irgendwas realistisch noch unrealistisch ein,” he said, adding that he makes no Gedanken about a call‑up and simply focuses on his week‑by‑week (Woche) work for the Mannschaft.

Coach Muslic lauds the performance

Karius’ contribution was decisive; his strong parades in the second half earned him the Man of the Match award. He saved the team several times in the closing stages, cementing his Anteil in the historic Bundesliga‑Sieg.

Coach Miron Muslic praised the keeper, saying, “Der sammelt die Trophäen. Er braucht bald ein neues Regal. Aber da werden wir ihm auch helfen.” He also noted that the national team’s first squad will be announced on 17 September and expressed confidence in the Bundestrainer’s Nominierung choices.

Robin Gosens, who provided Schalke’s first Bundesliga goal in 1 203 days, said he would “von ganzem Herzen gönnen” the honour, knowing how much it would mean to his teammate.

The win not only ends a long wait for a top‑flight triumph but also signals that the royal blues (Königsblauen) can compete at the highest level again, a point underscored by the Sky interview that followed.
