Kane's 150th goal keeps Bayern's title chase alive
Harry Kane's 150th Bayern Munich goal secured a 2‑1 victory over Elversberg in the Bundesliga, keeping the German champions in fourth place and extending their winning run after a goalless draw at Schalke. The FT result also handed the newly promoted side their first defeat of the campaign.
Kane's milestone and Bayern's win
Bayern opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Ismael Saibari's low cross deflected off Kane and found Lennart Karl, who tapped the ball in at the back post. Kane, who joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham in August 2023, added the milestone. Elversberg equalised in the 61st minute through Maurice Krattenmacher's curling strike from the edge of the box. Kane then received the ball inside the area and blasted a near‑post finish past keeper Nicolas Kristof, clinching the winner. The strike marked his 99th Bundesliga goal in 97 appearances, his first of the 2026‑27 campaign, and came at age 33.
Elversberg's debut season and town size
Elversberg, the league's newest entrants, entered the season with wins over Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach, earning six points from their first two fixtures. The club hails a town reported as having a population of 13,000 in one account and 7,500 in another, underscoring its modest size. After the loss they sit sixth in the Bundesliga, while Bayern remain fourth.
Kane's tally now stands at 150 goals in 153 matches for Bayern, a strike rate that has seen him score ten more goals than any other player across Europe’s big‑five leagues since the start of the 2023‑24 campaign and average a goal every 79 minutes. He also reached 50 Bundesliga goals in just 43 appearances, an all‑time record, and is on course to become the quickest to 100, a milestone currently held by Dieter Muller. His performances have also placed him among the favourites for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded in London in October.
