Kane denies side jab at Mbappe and Yamal and promises gifts

Harry Kane, the 33‑year‑old striker from England, clarified shortly after FC Bayern's 6:1 victory over 1. FC Magdeburg that his Instagram quote was not a dig at Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal, and announced that he will give his teammates surprising gifts.

Warm‑up and Show

Although Kane did not feature in the 6:1 victory of FC Bayern over 1. FC Magdeburg, he was at the centre of attention and gave a post‑match interview.

His return to the Allianz‑Arena for the DFB‑Cup tie felt slightly subdued after the buzz surrounding his World Footballer award on Monday in London.

At the start of the warm‑up, his teammates formed a tunnel in the half‑empty stadium for the English striker, while “Rock You Like a Hurricane” played over the loudspeakers.

Soon after, a short video message from Kane played over the loudspeakers before he returned to the dressing room.

Future Appearances and Gifts

The big “We‑have‑a‑World‑Footballer‑Show” is slated to take place at the Bundesliga top‑match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, which is considered a more dignified setting than the second‑round DFB‑Cup match against the second‑division side.

Kane will play again against Borussia Dortmund, after having spent the full match on the bench against Magdeburg and being represented by Isamel Saibari.

Just before midnight, Kane spoke in the mixed zone at length about his winning of the Ballon d’Or and the accompanying side effects.

He recounted that he received a golden schnitzel from the Waldgasthof Buchenhain, which he has not eaten because he sees it more as a trophy.

Kane admitted that it is almost embarrassing for him to be in the spotlight, and described the warm‑up with standing, applauding colleagues as something he does not normally enjoy.

He thanked all his teammates again for their contribution to his triumph and revealed that some of them had wished for watches or similar items.

Kane announced that he will procure a nice gift for each, both for Bayern and for the England national team.

In England there is debate about whether he could be knighted by the King, to which he said he would not decline the offer and would consider it an incredible honour.

After his selection as World Footballer he posted an Instagram statement: “Work hard in silence, let success be your noise.”

Many saw it as a dig at Mbappé and Yamal, but Kane stressed that the quote is his life motto and not an attack on the competitors.
