Kamada's looping strike lifts Crystal Palace in Carabao Cup
At Selhurst Park on local time 8, Crystal Palace defeated Middlesbrough 3‑0 in the Carabao Cup third round, with Daichi Kamada scoring his first official goal of the season and Takehiro Tomiyasu making his first full start since joining.
Early dominance and first goal
The home side took the lead in the 37th minute when Oscar Minje delivered a high cross from the right flank. Yorgen Strand Larsen leapt above the defence and headed the ball into the net, giving Palace an early advantage.
Six minutes later, in the 53rd minute, Ben Chilwell collected the ball on the left side of the box and floated a pass to Strand Larsen, who again rose to meet it with a header, doubling the lead.
Japanese duo decides the outcome
After a double substitution in the 59th minute, Adam Worthen and Daichi Kamada entered the pitch. Ten minutes later, Takehiro Tomiyasu released a vertical pass that split the Middlesbrough defence.
Strand Larsen’s movement created space for Kamada, who arrived at the edge of the penalty area and unleashed an artistic looping shot that curled past the goalkeeper, sealing the third goal.
Crystal Palace made eight changes to the starting eleven that had suffered two consecutive Premier League defeats, with Tomiyasu earning his first full‑match appearance and Kamada starting from the bench.
New manager Pierre Sarge, appointed earlier this month, reshuffled the squad and guided the team to a convincing cup win despite a difficult start to the league campaign.
Palace will return to Premier League action on the 12th, facing Ipswich Town, who feature Daizen Maeda in their lineup.
