During a minute of silence for the late Inter legend Sandro Mazzola, Juventus Turin fans in Serie A caused a stir and may have provoked a disciplinary action. The incident occurred on Sunday before the home match against Atalanta Bergamo, which ended 2-0.

Juventus immediately distanced itself from the part of its own fan base that turned its back on the pitch. “The lack of respect during a minute of silence cannot be justified by any rivalry,” the club said, apologizing. The officials pointed out that collective remembrance must go beyond club affiliations.

Instead of a silent tribute, the fans in the south stand sang songs to the late Juventus icons Gaetano Scirea, Andrea Fortunato and Gianni Agnelli. This demonstrative behaviour was perceived by many spectators as a provocation.
