Jürgen Klopp's home premiere gives hope with Yann Bisseck

In Jürgen Klopp's home debut against Greece, the German national team lost 0-1, but the 25-year-old defender Yann Aurel Bisseck left a positive impression that could secure him further nominations for the Nations League.

After the 0-1 (0-0) result, Bisseck said: “I don’t have much to blame myself for, but I think when you lose a game, your own performance isn’t that important.” With that, he showed that he does not see the defeat as a personal fault.

The man delivered a flawless performance in his very first second international match, was extremely robust in the duels and strong in the air. When asked about his own performance, he answered modestly: “It was okay, I think,” and emphasized that he had tried everything to help the team.

Coach Jürgen Klopp saw Bisseck’s appearance as a reason for further nominations. The defender is considered an alternative to Jonathan Tah and the now‑spared Nico Schlotterbeck, which further fuels the competition in central defence – exactly as Klopp intends.

Career path and future in the DFB team

Born in Cologne, Bisseck’s path went through loan spells in Kiel, Roda Kerkrade, Portugal and Aarhus, before Cologne sold him to the Danish league. Since the summer of 2023 he has been playing for Inter Milan, where he achieved two league titles, a cup and the Champions League final.

Five years ago he contemplated an early end to his career. When he dropped to the second team at Vitoria Guimarães, he planned to study medicine in Berlin. That period shaped him, but the rise at Inter made him keep the goal firmly in sight again.

His debut for the German national team came in March 2025 under Julian Nagelsmann against Italy. Bisseck recalled: “When I think about the fact that I almost stopped playing football, I am now extremely happy about how everything has turned out.”

For the upcoming international matches in November he hopes for another call‑up: “I hope so.” According to his own statements, he is high on Klopp’s list, and he wants to further develop his chances with a month of intensive club football at Inter.
