Jürgen Klopp leads Germany’s rebuild after World Cup exit
Germany’s 2026 World Cup campaign ended in the round of 32, a result the German Football Association described as unsatisfactory. On 17 May the DFB unveiled a 44‑man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures, signalling a fresh start ahead of the next international window. The roster will compete in Group A2 alongside the Netherlands, Serbia and Greece.
Former coach Julian Nagelsmann stepped down and Jürgen Klopp, who led Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool to glory, was hired to steer the side forward.
The 44 players are divided into two groups. Twenty‑four will travel for the away match against the Netherlands on the 24th and the home game versus Greece on the 27th, after which a further 20 join for the Serbia match on 1 October and the away fixture against Greece on 4 October.
Eleven newcomers, including goalkeeper Mark Andre ter Stegen (Ajax), defender Jan Awule (Inter) and forward Yunes Ebnutri (Frankfurt), were named, while most participants from the first two games will return to their clubs.
