Jorge Jesus denies Ronaldo deal, the Ballon d’Or leaves Copenhagen
Portugal's manager, Jorge Jesus, said on Wednesday that there was “no Ronaldo business”, while the five‑time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, left the Copenhagen stadium in a Federation vehicle, an hour after the announcement of his participation in the collective training, on the eve of the duel against Denmark.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the manager affirmed “there is no Ronaldo business”. He also confirmed that the captain would take part in the collective training scheduled for the next day, attempting to put an end to the rumors circulating about the player.
According to L’Équipe, Cristiano Ronaldo left the Copenhagen stadium in a Federation vehicle while his teammates were starting the session. The five‑time Ballon d’Or therefore did not join the announced training, raising further questions.
Previous absences of Ronaldo
Ronaldo had already missed Tuesday’s session and had not trained with the group in Malmö. He was on the bench during the 1‑0 win over Wales and the 2‑1 win over Norway, without celebrating on the Oslo pitch.
Ronaldo and Jesus end heated dispute before duel with Denmark
The previous evening, a meeting brought together the president of the Portuguese Federation, Pedro Proença, the manager and Ronaldo. This overnight meeting shows the importance attached to the situation and the desire to defuse tensions before Thursday’s match.
Statements from Jorge Jesus
Jorge Jesus then said “It’s me who decides”, adding that “no player will change my decisions”. He explained that he had spoken with “Cris” about a problem that, according to him, did not exist, reminding that the five‑time Ballon d’Or never refuses to train.
He recalled that Ronaldo’s exclusion against Norway and Denmark had been planned in advance, as with Bruno Fernandes, and that the player had carried out weight‑training, mobility and strength exercises at the hotel. Jesus concluded by stating that he did not know whether Ronaldo would play on Thursday; it will depend on the match.
