Jordan Pickford faces court after high‑speed Lamborghini incident

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is set to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention. The incident unfolded in Knutsford, Cheshire, at around 3 pm on 14 April when the 32‑year‑old was behind the wheel of a blue Lamborghini Urus. The Athletic he has asked for a hearing to put forward mitigating circumstances.

Junction breach and police chase

Police say Pickford ignored give‑way markings at a junction, forcing two other vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision. Officer PC Cecil Ricardo witnessed the Lamborghini enter Toft Road from Princess Street without stopping, then pursued it with lights and sirens. The chase saw the police vehicle reach 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, while the Lamborghini was measured at about 80 km/h in a zone limited to 40 km/h or 48 km/h, according to differing reports. The car, valued at more than €200,000, eventually stopped on Toft Road where Pickford identified himself.

Legal response and court schedule

Following the stop, Pickford was cautioned and issued a traffic offence report. He entered a guilty plea in writing through the Single Justice Procedure but has requested a full court hearing to present mitigation. The case is scheduled for 7 December at Chester Magistrates’ Court, where the circumstances of the offence will be examined.

Impact on Everton and recent match

The off‑field incident occurred just five days before Everton suffered a 2‑1 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. Despite the legal drama, Pickford remains a key figure for the club, having made either 365 or 336 appearances since joining from Sunderland in 2017, according to separate sources.

Internationally, the England goalkeeper has earned either 93 or 92 caps since his debut in November 2017. He featured in the Nations League, missing the first two games of the international break but returning for the 7‑0 win over Croatia and keeping a clean sheet against Czechia. Some reports also list his participation in the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups and the Euro 2020 and 2024 finals.

Pickford’s on‑field contributions contrast sharply with the off‑field scrutiny he now faces. While his performances continue to underpin Everton’s defence and England’s goal‑keeping options, the upcoming court hearing will determine how his legal issues affect his playing career.
