Jong the Oranje gets unexpected opponent for Euro play‑offs
On a cold Friday morning in Swiss Nyon, the draw for the Euro‑2027‑play‑offs was revealed, with Jong the Oranje getting a confrontation with Jong Denemarken. The news came via the official UEFA‑draw and immediately put the young Belgian squad in the spotlight.
The team, under head coach Michael Reiziger, starts the two‑leg tie away, after which they will host the Danish opponents at home. For Jong the Oranje the road to the play‑offs was long and bumpy.
The two matches will take place during the next international break, around November. The winner of this duel qualifies for the Euro, which will be held next summer in Serbia and Albania.
Difficult qualification
The regular qualification was very arduous; defeats to Jong Israël and Jong Noorwegen almost wiped out the hope. Eventually Jong the Oranje climbed on the final matchday to the second place in the group.
That day Jong the Oranje won convincingly 4‑0 against Jong Bosnië en Herzegovina, while Jong Israël only drew 1‑1 with Jong Noorwegen. With that, Jong the Oranje finished second and secured a place in the play‑offs.
The opponent: Jong Denemarken
Jong Denemarken, with fifteen points from eight qualification duels – three more than Jong the Oranje – also finished second in a group with Belgium, Austria, Wales and Wit‑Rusland. In the upcoming confrontation, Jong Denen, better known as Jong Denemarken, will take on Jong the Oranje.
