JJ Gabriel's bid to leave United adds fresh turmoil at Manchester
Manchester United’s 15‑year‑old academy prospect JJ Gabriel has formally asked the club to remove him from its squad, sparking fresh turmoil as the Red Devils grapple with a dismal start to the season. The teenager, represented by agent Ali Barat, is linked with four European giants.
United's troubled start
Michael Carrick’s side have won just one of their opening six matches in all competitions and sit 12th in the Premier League. Defeats have arrived at the hands of Manchester City, Hull and Brighton, while a late Matheus Cunha strike rescued a point against Fulham on Sunday. The poor run has intensified scrutiny of the squad.
Injury woes have compounded the club’s problems. Benjamin Sesko, the 23‑year‑old striker, suffered a relapse of a persistent shin problem and withdrew from the Slovenia squad. He wrote on Tuesday that he is sorry to miss upcoming international matches but is focused on recovery to help both country and club.
Gabriel's deregistration push
Gabriel, who turns 16 on 6 October, is a couple of weeks away from being eligible for a scholarship with United and must wait until his 17th birthday to sign a professional contract. Despite his request, he remains registered for the remainder of the season and cannot be deregistered under current rules.
His agent, Ali Barat, has been instrumental in escalating the departure bid, unlocking links to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The intermediary’s influence is seen as vital to any potential move.
Transfer speculation intensifies
Spanish outlet Sport Gabriel’s shortlist now features four clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint‑Germain. All four are reportedly keen on securing the youngster’s signature.
Manchester United believe the matter can still be resolved, even as the teenager’s desire to up sticks grows. The club maintains that Gabriel is still part of the squad for the season.
