Jesus signals possible return of Ronaldo to Nations League

Jesus signals possible return of Ronaldo to Nations League

After Portugal's 2:1 victory over Norway in Porto on 5 October 2026, national coach Jorge Jesus opened the door for a possible return of Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the national team after not being used in the first leg and in the subsequent 4:2 win against Denmark.

Decision on Ronaldo's Return

The 72‑year‑old Jorge Jesus, who coached Ronaldo at Al‑Nassr last season and led the club to the championship, emphasized after the win: “For me, Cris is a candidate for the squad in the next call‑up – provided he plays at Al‑Nassr. If he wants to come back, he will come back.” He made clear that the final decision on a return in November does not rest solely with him.

Jesus added: “I don’t know what will happen. Cris is the one who will decide.” The Portuguese federation president Pedro Proença announced that he will mediate between Ronaldo and Jesus, and said: “Now that these four games are over, we will all have the time and calm to sit down and resolve a misunderstanding.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has so far played 234 international matches for Portugal and scored 146 goals – both record numbers in international football. His market value is listed at €10,00 Mio. €. Portugal won all three Nations‑League matches in the turbulent week without Ronaldo and is already in the quarter‑finals.

Team Reactions and Current Values

Instead of Ronaldo, Gonçalo Ramos was used as a centre‑forward; his market value is €50,00 Mio. €. Bruno Fernandes described Ronaldo as “the greatest symbol of our national team, our football and our country” and is valued at €35,00 Mio. €.

The full‑backs Nuno Mendes and João Cancelo also spoke positively: “If Cris returns, we will welcome him with open arms,” said Mendes. Cancelo added: “I believe that things will turn out in the best possible way. We all want the situation to be resolved calmly and with the respect Cristiano deserves.”

The discussion about Ronaldo’s future is present in all areas: latest transfers, community contributions, gaming analyses and the premium‑service video section provide daily up‑to‑date news. In the Bundesliga‑forums, on all platforms and after every analysis, the topic is discussed intensively, supported by comprehensive support and a broad user‑community.

While Portugal has already been able to celebrate Nations‑League victories without Ronaldo, Jesus keeps the door open – a sign that success and personal decisions continue to be in tension.
