Jeff bezos' £1.35bn investment means change on and off Liverpool pitch

Jeff Bezos is on the brink of becoming Liverpool's co‑owner as a consortium moves to buy a 30‑33% stake for roughly £1.35 billion, a deal that could reshape the club both on the pitch and off it.

The investment group, fronted by former Queens Park Rangers shareholder Amit Bhatia, includes the Amazon founder and Facebook co‑founder Eduardo Saverin. Their proposed purchase would give them a sizeable share of the Merseyside side, though Fenway Sports Group would retain control.

Fenway Sports Group, which bought Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million, now sees the club valued at about £4.6 billion by Forbes. That valuation makes the Bezos‑Saverin stake one of the biggest financial moves in football history.

Financial scale of the deal

Bezos, the third‑richest person on Forbes’ list behind Elon Musk and Larry Page, is worth $280.6 billion (£207.5 billion). His capital injection would boost Liverpool’s resources for transfers, stadium projects and global expansion, reducing reliance on debt financing.

With such backing, a £100 million‑plus bid for Paris Saint‑Germain winger Bradley Barcola becomes realistic, and the club could also secure contract renewals and long‑term football operations without borrowing.

Strategic implications for Liverpool

A new era began this summer when Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot as first‑team manager, and Mohamed Salah departed after nine years. The fresh funding is expected to help Iraola build a squad capable of competing at the highest level.

The consortium’s global reach could open more commercial opportunities in the United States and Asia, further growing the Liverpool brand beyond its traditional markets.
